Random Thoughts on a Commodities Parade

First off, I must note that I took the article title from one of Thomas Sowell’s columns.  His social commentary provides me piece of mind when events around me seem beyond comprehension and utterly nonsensical.  For the brief time it takes me to read it through I’m reassured there’s at least another sane mind out there, as well.  In my best tribute to Sowell, I will now comment on commodity news and events that without clarity and analysis appear like a dizzying parade of seemingly nonsensical hot air and mindless numbers. 

It feels that only a few weeks ago that crude oil and gasoline prices were going to doom this country to a future of penny pinching misers and Mini Cooper drivers.  At least that is what Congress spewed forth from their re-election campaign pulpits.  Less than a month ago the United States had a crisis on hand when crude prices hit $75 a barrel!   It seems now that prices have fallen dramatically we are saved from impending doom.  Oh wait, prices are right around $72.  According to my sources within Capitol Hill, impending doom was put off for two weeks to chatter about the other imminent doom - illegal immigrants.
